Ananteshwara Temple: A Serene Place of Worship

Legends

Another legend associated with the temple is that of a sage named Mrikandu. It is believed that Mrikandu performed penance at the temple to seek Lord Shiva’s blessings. Lord Shiva appeared before him and granted him a boon. Mrikandu requested that he be blessed with a son who would be a great scholar and devoteof Lord Shiva. Lord Shiva granted his wish, and Mrikandu’s son, Markandeya, went on to become a great scholar and devotee of Lord Shiva.

The Ananteshwara temple’s architecture is simple yet elegant. The temple’s entrance has a small gopuram (tower), and the main sanctum has a beautiful Shiva Linga. Also, the temple’s courtyard is surrounded by a boundary wall and has a few smaller shrines dedicated to other Hindu deities.
